Prince Harry, Manhattan, Champagne and Polo….yup, that was Sunday

The good people of New York welcomed Prince Harry today in their glamourous city for a day of gentlemanly sport.  This Sunday was the third annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic on Governors Island.  It is an event that has become the place to be seen, other than the Hamptons, for a summer event in the city.  The weather was hot – a balmy 90 degrees with extreme humidity but, that didn’t keep the crowds from coming out. It just meant that the dresses were tinier than ever before and the drinking was taken up a notch to keep everyone hydrated (although I’m pretty sure alcohol has the opposite effect).  Besides, after paying at least $250 for the privilege of watching Prince Harry horse around (pun intended)…you aren’t exactly just going to blow off the event.  Tables started at $50,000 but let’s remember that this was done for charity and the money will go towards providing for over 400,000 children in Africa. The glitterati were out in full force in their glamour gowns…

The setting could not have been more beautiful….

And then the crowd got something no one could have predicted in the first half…

Prince Harry got right back on the horse…no injuries Sadly, however, Nacho Figueras’ team, Black Watch, won the match in the end with a score of 6-5. There was a tremendous amount of money raised for the charity…we’ll update you when we have a final figure.
