The Villa by Barton G, former Miami residence of Gianni Versace, opens as a boutique hotel

It’s not everyday that one can spend a night in a mansion so rich in fashion history. So it is no great surprise that the former residence of Gianni Versace, now known as The  Villa by Barton G., has debuted to great acclaim.  Located in the heart of South Beach, the Villa has 10 suites which have each been decorated in a completely unique fashion.  Accommodations range from the stunning Medallion Suite (434 square-foot) overlooking one of the most beautiful mosaics in the mansion to the amorous Venus Suite (1,428 square-foot) with two private balconies perched above Ocean Drive and the mansion’s Thousand Mosaic Pool. The Villa Suite (1,174 square-foot), Versace’s one-time bedroom, boasts a nine-foot double king-size bed, two balconies, seven closets and a custom oversized shower. Sound luxurious enough for you yet? The Villa By Barton G. remains true to Versace’s vision with private British trained butlers for hotel guests, luxurious fabrics throughout and the highest end amenities such as Frette sheets and towels, Kindle e-readers and custom nightly Nibbles as turndown treats.

“Transforming the Versace Mansion has been an extraordinary endeavor as well as an exceptional opportunity to build my personal brand in hospitality for the first time,’’ says Barton G. Weiss, whose Miami-based successes encompass his restaurants, top-tier events production and destination management divisions and a highly creative culinary arts division. “My first foray as a hotelier was a personal investment that has paid off handsomely by breathing new life into this historic address.”

Craving a bit of home away from home? The Villa By Barton G. will host Miami Beach’s only afternoon tea, launching fall 2010. The Saturday and Sunday Tea at The Villa will feature a variety of the world’s most exotic teas, pastries and finger sandwiches served by The Villa’s British-certified butlers.

Here’s a closer look at two of the suites:

The Aviary Suite (578 square feet): Parrots, hummingbirds and doves decorate the walls of The Aviary Suite, where a private terrace, sitting room, king-sized bed and two full-sized bed/sitting alcoves create a feeling of tranquility and luxury. Red stained glass windows have white wood trims, millwork and rosettes. The Greek Key mahogany bed is inlayed in gold and black, with gold legs that match gold-leafed mahogany side tables and stands. A red and ecru on black cut velvet settee features rich textures and French cornucopia patterns, with a green and brown bedspread done up with lush crest work. The parquet flooring is overlaid with a patterned red area rug, and aviary statuettes abound.

The Venus Suite (1,428 square feet): The largest room in the mansion features a separate sitting area and two balconies. The parlor is done up in coral cornucopia, with Tuscan mural artwork and rich Italian Villa furniture in classic Palladian gold scroll. Soft tan and blush colors set a relaxing mood, as does an arched window series of olive green wood and acacia green stained glass. Stone floor inlays, wall ornamentation and marble details highlight the bathroom, which is outfitted with an oversized double-head shower as well as a double sink and bidet. The Tuscan garden ceiling pattern is reflected into the heavily textured, gold-on-ivory velvet bedspread, which is complemented by a custom Italian gold treated headboard with cornucopia motif. A heavy bolster with black tassels and black and gold chenille accents replicates an original from the Versace mansion. Windows are slung with Versace drapes composed of gold and black on ivory with a gold exterior side. Polished white paneling with refined gold detail and a heavy, plush, medallion-patterned gold-and-black floor rug complete the ambience.

Rates at The Villa By Barton G. start at $2,100/night.
