Last night I had the great pleasure in attending the Polo Ralph Lauren, Polo Jeans Co. Art Stars event in London at Phillips de Pury & Company‘s gallery. It was indeed both an honour and a pleasure just to be invited to such an amazing event but it didn’t really dawn on me, until after having spent the evening there, just how important this event was.
As a fashion blogger, I get invited to many different things. This can range anywhere from a brand opening a store to the launch of a new line. However, I can only count on two fingers the number of times I have been invited to a party where I have left wondering if my place was in fashion or if it was in working for a charity. Last night counts for one of those two fingers.
Allow me to explain…
Now, you will see below that the night was a fun filled event that showcased amazing artistic talent and brought together some absolutely outstanding individuals. So on that level, it was quite entertaining. But what was moving, what made me want to change my charitable giving habits, was having the opportunity to talk to some of the young women who were in attendance that had had their own lives changed by the generosity of others. The Teenage Cancer Trust was the organization which received the proceeds from last night’s auction of the Art Stars. Every single penny went to this amazing charity that focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer. This charity sets up specialist units within NHS hospitals that are designed to give young people the best possible outcome while battling this horrendous disease.
I am humbled by these amazing young people that attended last night’s event and shared their heroic tales of battling Cancer. And so for that I say thank you to Ralph Lauren, Simon de Pury and all of the talented Art Star artists for coming together to make a difference. This was NOT just another fashion party or an evening of indulgence. This was a party that has caused change not only in raising money for a good cause but also by raising awareness.
