Christian Dior, Autumn Winter 2011….Galliano bids us goodbye

Since 1997, the world has enjoyed the extravagant designs of John Galliano for Christian Dior. This month, due to circumstances we have all followed with great curiosity over the past week, Galliano was dismissed from his post as Head Designer.  However, the show must go on. And so Galliano’s final collection for Dior was shown yesterday in Paris without the designer in attendance. It was a show that became, perhaps, the most anticipated of the season. It is also a show that would have made headlines through the clothes alone. To say that Galliano left on a high note would be an understatement. This collection for Dior was like watching a lecture in texture mixology. It was wildly romantic and dramatic and left so many confused and battling with their emotions. So I suppose this is where we say farewell…I’ll let the designs of the great artist say “adieu”…
