Elie Saab Autumn Winter 2011

The press release began…”Like a modern-day Belle de Jour fresh from the set of a Luis Buñuel film, the ELIE SAAB woman dons a tall, slim silhouette, the epitome of Parisian chic” Yes, the garments were as decadent as the wording used to describe them.  However, as the show began and black dress after black dress came down the runway, I did begin to wonder if Elie Saab had been asked personally by Anna Wintour to bring back the LBD! If there was one man that could convince a generation of women to embrace a style of dress, that one man would be Elie Saab. But out of darkness came the spring. When the first flowery gown appeared with muted colours and moody movement I knew the show was only just beginning. What followed were lovely silhouettes in crimson reds, deep purple plums, sparkly silvers and nudes. And just when you thought you’d seen it all, we were back to the black dress again.

This season,  Elie Saab provided a good range of day wear and evening wear for his woman.  The chic day wear looks are made for a classy and sophisticated women…a “modern-day Belle du Jour,” remember?  One could quite easily wear only Elie for AW2011 and be at the top of the fashion pyramid for the duration of the season. Here’s a look at what I felt were the highlights of the show this season…
