One night at the Plaza Athénée in Paris…

Last week, while I was in Paris touring the Hermes Atelier, I had to find a place to rest my head. So while one is in Paris visiting one of the finest “factories” in the world, it is essential you stay in the best hotel on Parisian soil, n’est-ce pas? That’s where Plaza Athénée in Paris comes into play. I’m just going to come right out and say that yes, this is the very same hotel featured in the last series of Sex and The City. It’s also a hotel that has seen many famous faces pass through its revolving doors. While the hotel itself is discreet and would never share such information publicly, we’ve dug a little and found that big names such as Grace Kelly, Jackie Kennedy, Anna Wintour, Oprah Winfrey and Salma Hayek have all called Plaza Athénée home while staying Paris! After sleeping there for only one night we can now fully understand why.

From the moment I stepped into reception, service was the best I have ever experienced in a hotel. I was not made to wait for even one moment and my check in took all of 93 seconds… yes, I counted. From there I was whisked away to my suite, room 440/1, and tucked in for the night. Sadly, I did not get to experience the full joys of the hotel (several restaurants, a Dior Institut and a sauna/steam room to die for) as I arrived late in on the Eurostar and had work to do before bed. Here I must mention that the hotel has a wonderful internet service that is marvellously speedy. This was of course a serious plus point for me as I caught up on all the fashion news I’d missed sitting on a Eurostar for three hours.

I do believe pictures speak louder than words when it comes to the beauty of this hotel. The living room and bedroom were the absolute definition of “lush” and comfort reached a new level here. However, the bathroom was where I really lost all control of my little shrieks of delight. The attention to detail in this room is second to none. I slipped into the deep tub and wanted to pretend I was Carrie Bradshaw in the flesh, living the life that fashion dreams are made of.

As I retired to bed, I stole a piece of the welcome cake that was left for me on the living room table and consulted my “pillow menu”. Yes, that’s right… you can order a pillow that is suited to your needs for the evening. I went for the beauty pillow in the end. Beauty sleep can always use some assistance especially as I was tossing and turning for nights before at the thought of being back in this magical city. I was all cuddled in bed and ready to drift away when I noticed I had left the lights on in the front room. Argh! Thankfully the hotel has this covered. There’s actually a button next to your bed that turns off all the lights in the room at once so no more getting out of bed to turn the lights on and off around your suite. It’s the little things in life… isn’t it?

Alright, I know you are wanting to jump ahead into the pictures. They truly do tell a better story… so here we go… enjoy!

(Note: Don’t miss the breakfast at the hotel as my taxi driver informed me as I left that I had just left the home of the best pastry chef in Paris… and he wasn’t lying… I nearly finished the whole basket at breakfast…see below)
