I have a feeling that every individual that visits New York has a favourite bakery. For me, it’s like having a place you get coffee. It’s the first place you go when you wake up your first morning in New York. Yeah, I’m a baked goods queen. Cupcakes come before coffee. That would explain the newest dimple added to my thighs this month. But hey, life isn’t a dress rehearsal and I’m enjoying every minute.
Now, about that bakery. Ever since the girls of Sex and The City had their first cupcake outside Magnolia Bakery in the West Village, this tiny bakery has become a tourist trap of epic proportions. Ladies come, photograph themselves in line and share cupcake selfies shamelessly on social media. I say, more power to them. Magnolia Bakery was bound to get recognized and was featured on the popular HBO programme for a reason. They have some of the best baked goods in the business.
But, here’s something most people will forget to tell you when they mention Magnolia Bakery. They’ll scream and shout about the cupcakes, but the best thing to order on the menu has nothing to do with a cupcake.
Visit Magnolia on Bleecker and make sure to order the famous Banana Pudding. Life is simply not complete without trying this delicacy. Imagine vanilla pudding so thick you could turn the cup over and it wouldn’t budge an inch. Now add in chucks of Vanilla wafers and fresh bananas and you have a spoonful of heaven.
May I recommend taking a page from Carrie Bradshaw’s book and visiting the bakery with girlfriends? My two besties make the best Magnolia companions. This tradition is one that will never die. When in NYC, we start the festivities with a girlie trip to Banana Pudding perfection. (Ps. Arney and Megan, sending you lots of love, girls.)
