We all know the magic of the little blue box. For years it’s been synonymous with the big moments in life. Graduations, engagements, marriage, push presents and more. There seems to be no occasion that a Tiffany blue box doesn’t make special. In 2020, that same monumental box has come to life, in a matter of speaking. The famous New York Tiffany Blue Box Cafe has jumped across the Atlantic and landed in its perfect new home, in the basement of Harrods. And yes, it’s everything you’d imagine it to be.
Last week, I went in for a special preview of the cafe. On a bright and beautiful London morning, as if Tiffany had pre-ordered the blue skies specifically for the occasion, I sat in a blue leather booth, rested my legs under freshly pressed white tablecloths and sipped from partially painted Tiffany blue and white tea cups. Waiters danced through the gaps in tables with cake stands holding specially prepared box croissants in the flavours of raspberry, lemon and chocolate. Orange juices and coffees were served throughout, followed by a taste of the famous fruit salad, the avocado on toast and a very special crab muffin concoction. Ladies and gentleman gasped, in the appropriate places, at the sight of it all. You could easily have forgotten you were in London. This could have been New York City. Audrey Hepburn could float in at any moment, with the perfect up do and jewels a plenty.
Now, I’ll be honest here and say that my biggest concern was access for the general public. The Tiffany Blue Box Cafe in New York had a reputation for being impossible to get into. Harrods have a solution. Every Friday morning, you can book a table for the week ahead only. So it’s a week to week scheduling. Heaven sent! Oh, and they do keep tables for walk-ins. Honestly, I could have hugged the folks at the door when I was given this information. There was no way I was going to share this little gem if we couldn’t find a way for you guys to get in! So there you have it… good news and better news!
