Years ago, I was in New York City and I rather embarrassingly caught my trousers on a piece of shredded metal on a bench. They split right open. I was mortified as I was sitting with two fashion editors from the UK as we awaited our next show at New York Fashion Week. I was wearing a gorgeous pair of Ralph Lauren camel trousers. They weren’t ruined, but the tear left me quite on show without an immediate fix. So, I dashed into the department store across the street and promised to meet my friends outside the venue.
Fate took part in what happened next. There was a display at the entrance that featured a pair of leather leggings. They looked so chic, but I was aware, as I always am, that they probably were some designer pair that didn’t come up beyond a size eight. An eager shop attendant came over, seeing an opportunity, and I asked her where I could find the leather leggings. She said, “they’re faux and they’re Spanx.” Excuse me? I owned Spanx… multiple pairs…but they were all undergarments. I had no idea they were doing leggings, let along chic leather leggings.
Since that day, I’ve been a devotee. I have Spanx leggings in at least ten varieties and they always make me feel amazing. But, I’ve never before put together a ten ways to wear these beauties… the classic staple… the faux leather leggings!
Now, a few technical things, before we get into the “how to wear.” The leggings are 98.00, come in sizes XS-3X and stretch to fit petite, regular or tall inseams! I’m wearing an XL for reference, which are a little tighter since lockdown… and I’ve ordered a 1X to get me through until I can get back into a gym one day.
I must say that I call these beauties my “Sisterhood of the traveling pants, pants”. Not entirely original, I know. What I mean to say is that they will fit almost everyone and they are universally flattering! Sara Blakely, we all agreed you were a genius when you founded Spanx, this took things to the next level.
