Monday Musings: Watching, Reading, Eating and Shopping now….

Happy Monday, all! I’m home from Maine now and trying to get back into the swing of things with work as fast as I can. I’m not sure about you but the lack of routine in a day, for 14 days straight, throws me a little out of whack for a while. Coming back into the work week feels a bit odd, like a freshly washed pair of jeans that needs wearing in again. So here I am, wearing them in quite publicly as usual.

So, this week’s Monday Musings should have had a lot more books involved. I packed 10 for the beach. You know how many I read? One. Just one. I’m not really sure what I was doing that I didn’t make the slightest dent in my book pile, but I’m embarrassed to say the least. Life sometimes takes over and books take a backseat.

What’s the one book I read, you ask? Well, it’s the ultimate beach read:

Under The Southern Sky by Kristy Woodson Harvey

I had seen this in People Magazine, I believe, and I was lured in by the promise of a Southern romance, so I ordered it on Amazon before I left for Maine and packed it thinking it would be the last thing I read on the trip as a bit of a sweet treat for the mind. It ended up being my first and last, and yes it was like serving my brain McDonald’s for dinner. It’s a quick read that can easily be finished in a day. It’s written with a fictional southern coastal town in mind that sounds just like where I am now and the romance factor is entirely predictable but beautiful all the same. If you want a heartwarming beach read, grab this now and get lost in the pages…

Or if you fancy tuning the world out and getting entirely lost with little effort, I’ll share that I watched two things this week that couldn’t have been more opposite, but both absolutely enjoyable.

First up, Burnt. You can watch this on Netflix.

Now, I will say that Burnt, starring Bradley Cooper, got terrible reviews. Terrible. I don’t know a single critic that loved this movie. Well, critics, get ready to choke on your popcorn. I absolutely adore this movie and always watch it when I’m missing London. Bradley Cooper is a dreamboat. When he speaks fluent french, I melt. And when he cooks I become a puddle on the floor. Plus, the whole thing is based in London, but starts in New Orleans. This movie speaks my language and it’s worth a try if you haven’t seen it already. I adore it.

Second thing to watch is brand new to small screens and it’s Quiet Place 2.

I highly recommend revisiting Quiet Place, the original, before jumping into the sequel. There is so much you will forget if you haven’t seen it in a while and the info from the first is crucial to understanding the second. Saying all that, it’s a great film, but beware the “jumping moments.” It is a horror film, and I don’t usually enjoy horror at all. But there is something oddly intriguing about this series of movies and the second installment doesn’t disappoint.

Now, onto some sport updates. Nope, don’t adjust your screens, I really did say this was a sport update.

My cool as all get out cousin bought a paddle board at the beach house last week and I had sport envy. So, I’ve decided to buy one for down here, in the southern states. I figure it’s the closest thing to heaven at sunrise and sunset, when it comes to exercising the body. Just imagine me cruising down the marsh atop a paddle board! I only have to worry about getting up without falling flat on my face a few times first.

Side note, how awesome is the below hotel in Maine? It’s in Wells in case anyone is looking!

I also have to give a shout out to a product that saved me these past two weeks in Maine, from Sarah Chapman. This is the Skinesis Skin Insurance tinted moisturiser with SPF50. This is life changing, no word of a lie. It made my skin glow each and everyday and was the only makeup I wore all week, aside from mascara. It also lasted through humidity like I’ve never experienced before in my life. So a massive hat’s off to the Sarah Chapman team. I’ve already ordered my second bottle so I’m never without this summer!

As you might have already seen, I’m back home again. The first thing I did, after cuddling the golden boys, was take them for a swim and I just had to share this happy face…

From there it’s been head down, get to work, stay focused. But each and every night I’m at the end of the dock with my journal, appreciating my surroundings and expressing my gratitude for being where I am today.

I will just leave you with one note, that absolutely floored me when I read it and I had to pass on…. See below and have a great week!
