You probably wouldn’t instantly think the aviator jacket I’m wearing, in the picture above, is a jacket that is “affordable.” It doesn’t look affordable and, trust me when I say this, it was doesn’t feel affordable. It’s gorgeous and it feels oh so luxurious, which is why I bought it immediately. It’s yet another reminder of how far we’ve come in the development of faux fur.
When I was younger, faux fur felt like touching a knotty longhaired dirty dog. Sorry, that’s pretty descriptive, but it was terrible! Keep in mind I’m nearly 42, so my first experience with faux fur was nearly 30 years ago. Since then the fashion world has fully embraced faux fur, replacing a rather lengthy former love affair with real animal fur. And in order for someone like Anna Wintour to approve of wearing anything faux, it’s gotta be next level good. So, the powers that be went to work and today we have faux fur that feels like the real thing, looks like the real thing, means no animals were harmed and comes with a a price tag that makes it more affordable to the masses. Now, does that mean all faux furs are created equal? My heavens, no. So, I thought I’d round up my selection of the best on offer at the moment. Most are VERY reasonably priced, with a few worth the splurge if you have the money to do so.
Let’s start with the jacket I’m wearing above:
