The Winter Cabins at The Berkeley in London quickly became the place to dine over the holiday period. So much so that over the break for Christmas it was nearly impossible to get a table. Might have something to do with the way in which these lovely cabins in the heart of Knightsbridge made us all feel as if we were holed up in a Swiss ski lodge rather than feet away from a busy London street.
The Winter Cabins are the most heavenly escape from the world. The curtains are drawn around a table of six and they are only reopened for the arrival of champagne, fondue, Raclette and more. Festive music pipes through speakers perched above the table as an overhead heater makes sure the brutal London chill is a distant memory. As you fall into sheepskin throws and admire your fellow dinners over a candlelit glow, it is quite easy to understand why this is such a special London popup.
Last week, I revisited, not knowing that the cabins were still up well into January and had tables free! I knew so many of you had asked about booking these tables over Christmas, so I thought I’d shout loud enough for the people at the back to hear that you might be able to grab a table if you book now. And please show up with a heavy appetite for cheese. Tis the season, dear people! Raclette with a side of fondue for two, please.
